San Francisco Zen Center’s financial model has always been, and will continue to be, a combination of income and the generosity of our benefactors.

Earned income is raised through¬†offerings like Tassajara’s guest season, the farm, and programs.

Donations through the generosity of members of our sangha is the second critical way that we are able to keep Zen Center going.

Through securing an endowment, San Francisco Zen Center anticipates increasing our annual income by $200,000 each year. This allows us some flexibility and freedom to focus on our mission — sharing the dharma.

The financial picture at Zen Center strongly informs our efforts with the Capital Campaign. If you’d like to learn more about the financial aspect, Robert Thomas, Zen Center’s president, wrote an interesting and accessible White Paper called¬†the zen practice of balancing the books¬†on this topic.
